BCHS Band Wins UIL Sweepstakes
The Bridge City High School Band won the UIL Sweepstakes for the first time since 2005 after receiving first-division ratings at the UIL Region 10 Concert and Sight-Reading contest held April 12-14 , 2011, at Silsbee High School.
The BCHS Symphonic Band received superior ratings from judges in both the Concert and Sight-Reading performances. Combined with the scores from the Regional marching contest in October 2010, the band won the top prize with Superior ratings in all three parts of the music competition.
The Sweepstakes award is the culmination of an exceptional year for the students in the BCHS Band. This award is especially important to the seniors in the band for whom this is the first Sweepstakes award Bridge City has captured during their years as band members. As they graduate, these dedicated students will have left a legacy of excellence behind for others to follow and will be able to look back and be proud that they were a part of the beginning of what will be a great future for the band program in Bridge City.
“The sweepstakes award for a band is something really special” commented BCHS band director, Russell Tipton, who is in his first year as band director at Bridge City High School. “Division I ratings from all of those judges are a signal to our school and community that our band program has what it takes to make Bridge City proud. Every student in our band program owns a piece of this achievement.”
