Honor Society
There is a chapter of the National Junior Honor Society on our campus. This is an honorary group and membership in this society is the highest academic honor that a student may obtain while in middle school. The purpose of the Honor Society is to create enthusiasm for supirior scholarship; to develop citizenship;to stimulate a disire to serve; to promote leadeership; and to instill qualities of character in the students.Students selected for membership are an important part of campus activities. Serviice projects throughout the year give students oppertunities to further develop leadership and citizenship characteristics.
To become eligible for membership students must have been in attendance at this school for one semester of the previous year and be in grade 8. they must earn 26 or more grade points for each semester of the previous year and have no semester grade lower than 80 and no six week grade lower than 75. candidates are then considered on the basis of citizenship, grades have been recieved and no more than 2 needs improvement grades are recieved. The names of students who are academically eligible are submitted to the faculty council for a vote. A student is disqualified if more than 2 faculty members vote no. Students are accountable for any disciplinary actions in which they are involved. Proper conduct and a cooperative spirit are prerequisits to membership.
Students selected in this way are recognized in an assembly of the student body. Induction takes place at a nighttime ceremony in early fall to which parents and school administration are invited .
