Student Health Initiative (SB530)

EFFECTIVE Fall 2007: Physical Assessments will take place in grades 3-12.

Overview:
Senate Bill 530 requires school districts to annually assess the fitness levels of ALL students in grades 3-12 starting in the 2007-2008 school year. Fitness Gram is the assessment tool identified by the Texas Education Agency to meet this mandate. This assessment tool uses criterion-referenced standards, called Healthy Fitness Zones, to determine students' fitness levels. In addition, as required by SB 530, this assessment tool measures three components of health-related physical fitness that have been identified as important to overall health and function including aerobic capacity; body composition; and muscular strength, endurance, and flexibility.

Parents have a right to request their child’s physical fitness assessment results.  Please contact your child’s campus.
